Designed to give students the confidence and skills needed to succeed in college, Pathway is a low-cost educational opportunity that combines online courses with local gatherings. Students earn college credit that is eligible for transfer to BYU-Idaho and other universities. The program takes one year to complete and can lead to professional certificates and degrees.
THE PURPOSES OF PATHWAY
The blessings of participating in Pathway affect students not only during their time in the program, but throughout the rest of their lives.
This is the primary objective of Pathway. All courses offered throughout the program include messages and principles designed to help students build testimonies of Jesus Christ and His gospel.
Pathway eases students into higher education and helps them build confidence in a supportive environment. Every Pathway course utilizes the BYU-Idaho Learning Model, which encourages students to prepare, teach one another, and ponder in their learning processes. This framework for education serves as an everlasting cycle for lifelong education.
Pathway can provide students both spiritual and temporal blessings. Throughout their education, students gain skills, learn doctrines, and strengthen values that will enable them to gain meaningful employment as well as become better parents, providers, citizens, and Church members.
Those who complete Pathway have many available options. With the principles learned in Pathway, students may continue their education at local universities or trade schools—or even matriculate into the BYU-Idaho Online Degree Program. Others apply the values they’ve learned in Pathway directly to the workforce or at home.
Where a bachelor’s degree might be just what a student needs to succeed in the United States, students in many other countries may benefit more from a professional certificate, an associate degree, or local employment resources.
Pathway plans to further its partnership with BYU-Idaho, as well as build relationships with local colleges and employment providers throughout the world, in an effort to open even more doors for educational and employment opportunities after students finish Pathway.
NEWS FOR SOUTH AFRICA
Pathway will implement a 40% ($12 per credit) tuition decrease for all students in South Africa, effective Spring 2016 Semester. This change will reduce Pathway’s tuition in South Africa from $30 to $18 USD.
This change is in response to regular, careful consideration of local currency exchange rates, economic indicators, and in consultation with local and area priesthood leaders. Since 2012, the South African Rand has seen steady devaluation relative to the dollar, and this change will allow Pathway to provide more affordable education to students in South Africa.
Since Pathway began, the commitment to low-cost education has guided the program’s formation and growth throughout the world. As Pathway continues to expand and bless the lives of countless individuals, families, and communities, providing affordable educational opportunities will remain central to Pathway’s guiding principles in its operations around the globe as well as in South Africa.
