The Missionaries’ Prayers were Answered

The Missionaries’ Prayers were Answered

Elder Alexandre Bene and Elder Inacio Guente completed honourable two year missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Angola. They were excited to return to their families in Mozambique, but they had an extended lay-over in Johannesburg.

Being aware of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland and Elder L. Whitney Clayton visiting the Africa Southeast Area at that time, they hoped by some miracle to be able to meet the visitors. They prayed that if it was possible, they would be able to meet the visiting General Authorities.

Elder Dale G. Renlund, who was president of the Africa Southeast Area at that time, greeted the Elders in the courtyard of the Area Office while they were awaiting transportation to the airport.  Just then a car pulled up, and to the amazement of Elder Bene and Elder Guente, out stepped Elder Holland and Elder Clayton!

Elder Holland embraced each Elder and thanked them for their service.  He talked with them briefly about their missions, and then entered the office.  Immediately afterwards the car arrived to take the Elders to the airport to fly home.

The prayers of two humble missionaries had been answered.  Have miracles ceased?  No, “...the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen.” (1 Nephi 1:20)
