The Gauteng FSY
FSY took place 5-10 January 2015 at Konka in Rustenburg. It was attended by youth from the Centurion, Roodepoort, and Soweto Stakes. There were also youth from the various mission districts. The theme was the 2014 youth theme “Come unto Christ.”
Some of the youth had this to say about the FSY week:
Byron Krauss (16, Roodepoort Stake)
'It was really a special, amazing and spiritual experience, especially the testimony meeting. I loved making new friends with the youth and the YSA counsellors.'
Sibusiso Mwale (16, Roodepoort Stake)
'Spiritual growth! My week was great! I had the best time in ages! I didn't know I could teach, but during the [Young Men] activity on Thursday, [where we had to teach one another,] I realised I can teach, and I am now a better teacher.'
Ishmael Mokoena (18, Bedfordview Stake)
'I really enjoyed this week. I loved meeting new people. I loved gospel study!”
Nhlanhla Mazibuko (17, Bedfordview Stake)
'I enjoyed it too much. I feel like I was in a good place. I met lots of people who showed me how to have good clean fun. I learned so much at the counsellor devotionals. After this week I am better able to prepare for my mission.'
Bulelwa Xalabile (16, Soweto Stake)
'I felt the Spirit throughout [the week]. I made friends. I had a good time. I had a chance to think and to ponder. Lots of my prayers were answered, and my questions too.'
Nicholas Sikhweni (16, Soweto Stake)
'It was great! I learned a lot. I have grown closer to my Heavenly Father. My testimony of the Church has been strengthened. I have learned what it truly means to 'Come Unto Christ.' I also learned how to show love to others and how to invite others to partake of the tree of life. I could go on all day, but I am getting emotional.'
The YSA Counsellors made these comments on the FSY week:
Ben Slabbert (23, Centurion Stake)
'It was great! I lost two job opportunities being here. There was evidence that Satan didn't want this program to happen as it should. It was great working with the counsellors and the other building counsellors. They [the YSAs involved] are really good people and such good people are not often found together in one place.'
Hyrum van Scheltema (22, Benoni Stake)
'For me it was something I have never experienced before. It was an opportunity to be a guide and help to the youth. It is amazing how youth from different backgrounds and with different personalities could get along so well in such a short period of time and to be bound like a family. Anyone who participated in this week will know what it feels like to feel the Holy Spirit. I know the Saviour knows our needs and loves us. '
Abena Danso (29, Johannesburg Stake)
'It was an extraordinary week. It was so special to be with a bunch of youth and YSAs who all desire to choose the right, to draw closer to the Saviour, and to feel of the Spirit. The counsellors did an amazing job being examples of righteousness to the youth. I will never forget the testimony meeting on the field and witnessing companies kneel in prayer. Konka became holy ground - FSY was a holy experience which I will forever cherish. '
