Living True to the Faith

Living True to the Faith

In all parts of the world, when young people of the Church gather together, they strengthen each other’s testimonies and their determination to live the gospel. Their enthusiasm is contagious, helping them form new friendships, feel the love of their fellow Saints, and grow in their commitment to stay “True to the Faith.”

Youth and young single adults, ages 14 to 30, gathered in Addis Ababa from around Ethiopia on September 27th 2014 to be spiritually fed and to have fun. The event was called EFY: Especially For You. It was a full day of workshops and activities enjoyed by over 160 people.

As buses arrived from far away towns, such as Awassa in the far south, the young people were greeted at registration, where they were given a T-shirt, a wristband, and breakfast. At the opening devotional, Elder Robert Wold, a Church Educational System missionary, introduced the theme for the conference, “Live True to the Faith.” His remarks were translated into Amharic for those who don’t speak English.

Participants spent the day rotating through workshops, which covered topics such as “Being Your Best Self”, “Setting Your Sights on the Temple”, and “Planning for Your Future.”  These classes were presented by local leaders and their wives. In between the workshops, everyone enjoyed outdoor activities and games. A recent convert, a young single adult from Debre Zeyit, commented: “I feel blessed being here.”

As a result of this youth conference, young members of the church in Ethiopia were able to renew their commitment to stay true to their covenants. They strengthened each other as they shared their testimonies and their love of the gospel.  These young people will be a force for good as the Church grows and gains strength in their country.
